Goals
The main theme of this year workshop is to let you to gain practical experience
of Enterprise Network Setup and Network Secuirty. The techniques you will
learn to complete in this workshop are as below:
- Configuration of firewall, ip NAT using Linux
- Configuration of network services like OpenLDAP server, NFS server,
DNS server and DHCP server using Linux
- Configuration of a simple VPN gateway using Linux.
- Setting of network monitoring and security tools using SNMP, NIDS,
etc.
Workshop Background information
This is a two weeks workshop with 3 students to form a group to setup
and manage a small enterprise network. Your network will have 3 machines
: the firewall, the enterprise server and a client. The enterprise network
structure is show as below :

Workshop Missions :
- Task 0 : Examin your group's assigned hosts,
subnet and ip addresses.
- Task 0.1 : Examin the procedures to logon
the assigned hosts using vmware remote console.
- Task 1 : Setup the hostname, ip address of
the assigned hosts and config the firewall
- Task 2 : Setup the internal DNS server, NFS
server, and OpenLDAP server on the Enterpise server.
- Task 3 : Setup a simple VPN gateway
- Task 4 : Setup SNMP and MRTG
- Task 5 : Setup SNORT
